Education from the Mother

In creation, for animals or humans,the family is always centered on the mother. The mother is the great educator in a family. The role of a mother is unique and incomparable. The mother trains,teaches,guides and disciplines with utmost care and constant attention on her children. By observing my mother, I understood the vital role that mothers play in family life. No words can express the depth of a mother’s role in shaping her children. No creation in this world is without mothers.

The first role of the mother is to conceive the baby; then she nurtures the baby with her life until the baby is born.Gestation is the process of carrying or being carried in the womb between conception and birth. It is the most precious time for a baby’s inner growth and for the mother to feel a mother’s love. Similarly, we can understand that developing a plan or idea over a period of time is also called gestation.

The mother is the first to bring a smile to a baby’s face as well as the one who evokes the baby’s first sound; then gradually she helps the child to speak. Although every family member speaks to a child, the mother is its first language teacher, which is why we call our first language “our mother tongue”. As a token of love and regard for our mothers, we should never neglect our mother tongue even if we speak many languages.

Love and motherhood are two sides of the same coin. A mother’s love is pure and without expectation. The mother brings forth love from a baby’s heart. Without love, life is miserable. In my mother I saw the flavor of selfless love in her mind, heart, words, and actions. As children, we should cultivate this selfless quality within so that it becomes constant.

Love gives and forgives. The mother is the epitome of forgiveness. As children, we tortured our mothers in so many ways and created many difficulties for her, but she forgave everything with a smile. This shows the tenderness in her heart and at the same time, her attention to rising us to grow and develop a good nature. It has been observed that punishment is not always the right approach.

Along with developing forgiveness a mother wants her child to be disciplined and organized. Both the mother’s love and her lifestyle have a great effect on a child. Encouraging a child to get up early in the morning, to do homework diligently, to go to school on time, and so on, teaches the child discipline.

Patience is a great virtue in mothers from the time of a child’s conception until it is grown. Shri Gurudev used to say that patience and perseverance can overcome mountains of difficulties. These are the qualities that we need to deal with everyday activities. Impatience kills time and breeds restlessness.

Compassion is a mother’s passionate love for her creation. we should live with compassion not only for our families and friend, but for all creation. Shri Gurudev said we should learn to be compassionately detached.

The propelling force of service is ingrained in every cell of a mother. Starting from daybreak until she retires in the evening, and even in her dreams, a mother’s love flows toserve selflessly. No one’s service can be compared with the service of a mother. We should cultivate this noble quality to serve all with love and feel that we are all one family.

Strength is motherhood. Without strength the mother has no meaning. She has strength, and she infuses strength in her children and others. A mother is a source of inspiration. She is the force to inspire her children.

Mothers had countless divine qualities. We should learn and incorporate these qualities into our lives and be a good child, a good person, and a good citizen. A tree is known by its fruit. We should not do anything that will hurt mothers or motherhood. She is the foundation of our lives. We should learn to respect our own mother as well all women, including the symbol of motherhood that we see in every aspect of nature. This will be our great loving tribute to our mothers and, above all, to God who is the mother of all.
